Fair Trade Policy Statement for CPG Manufacturers & Wholesalers
1. Ethical Labor & Worker Rights
All manufacturers must:
- Provide fair wages that align with or exceed local living wage standards.
- Ensure safe, non-exploitative working conditions in accordance with international labor laws (e.g., ILO standards).
- Prohibit child labor, forced labor, and workplace discrimination.
- Support worker empowerment, including the right to unionize and participate in decision-making.
2. Sustainable Sourcing & Environmental Standards
To ensure sustainability, manufacturers must:
- Source raw materials responsibly, avoiding deforestation and environmental degradation.
- Follow eco-friendly production processes, including responsible water and energy usage.
- Minimize packaging waste and prioritize recyclable or biodegradable materials.
- Adhere to North American environmental regulations for CPG imports.
3. Fair Trade Pricing & Market Access
- Manufacturers must set fair prices that reflect ethical wages and sustainable production costs.
- Wholesalers must commit to long-term, equitable trade relationships with African producers.
- No exploitative contracts, excessive markups, or unfair trade barriers should be imposed.
4. Transparency & Compliance
- Members must maintain clear records of sourcing, labor policies, and pricing structures.
- Businesses are subject to audits and must provide documentation verifying Fair Trade compliance.
- Any false claims or failure to meet Fair Trade standards may result in disqualification from the marketplace.
5. Community & Economic Impact
- Manufacturers must contribute to local community development, such as education, healthcare, or worker well-being programs.
- Products should highlight African heritage, craftsmanship, and economic empowerment.
6. Certification & Regulatory Compliance
- All products must comply with recognized Fair Trade certification standards (e.g., Fair Trade USA, Fairtrade International).
- Manufacturers must also meet North American CPG import regulations, including those from FDA, USDA, or other relevant authorities.
- Members must renew certifications as required and submit proof upon request.
Agreement & Enforcement
By joining this marketplace, manufacturers and wholesalers agree to uphold these Fair Trade standards, ensuring ethical trade between Africa and North America. Non-compliance may result in marketplace removal.
